50% VA Disability Rating
Benefits & Compensation (2026)
A 50% VA disability rating means the Department of Veterans Affairs has determined that your service-connected conditions reduce your overall functional capacity by 50%. As of 2026, this rating qualifies you for monthly tax-free disability compensation and unlocks a range of federal and state benefits designed to support your quality of life.
2026 Monthly Compensation Rates
Veterans with a 50% disability rating receive $1132.90 per month ($13594.80 per year) in tax-free compensation as a single veteran with no dependents. If you have a spouse, children, or dependent parents, your monthly payment increases. These rates are adjusted annually based on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) — the 2026 rates reflect the latest increase.
Rates effective December 2025 (2026 COLA adjustment). Additional amounts available for dependent children over 18 in school and Aid & Attendance for spouse.
