What documents do I need to file a VA disability claim?
At minimum you need your DD214 (separation documents), service treatment records, and current medical evidence showing your condition. A nexus statement connecting the condition to your service and lay/buddy statements can strengthen the claim.
Do I need all of these documents to file?
No. Items marked “Required” are the core documents VA needs. “If applicable” items only apply to certain situations, like adding dependents or claiming a specific benefit.
